Job Description

The Data Science Research Infrastructure (DSRI) is a distributed and scalable infrastructure for conducting Data Science experiments at Maastricht University. The DSRI is available to all staff and students.

As a Kubernetes/HPC DevOps engineer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team of 6 colleagues working with a variety of technologies to support all faculties of the university. In addition to supporting researchers and students, there is room to pioneer and experiment with new and upcoming technologies.

Your responsibilities will include the following:

• Maintain and develop the Kubernetes (OKD/Openshift)-based infrastructure to meet current and future needs, including aspects related to system upgrades, security, and resource monitoring;
• Support and guide researchers in the use of Docker and Kubernetes for their custom projects (mostly Python, R, or Matlab);
• Implement solutions to enhance the use of the Kubernetes-based infrastructure for research: distributed computing, workflow frameworks, scheduling, GPUs;
• Lead and/or participate in user-focused community and training activities;
• Monitor and troubleshoot infrastructure and performance issues and proactively address them;
• Contribute to the overall product vision and further integration of DSRI within Maastricht University.

Requirements

Additionally, you should have:

• Knowledge of high performance computing or CloudNative technology is a plus;
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Git, and CI/CD workflows;
• Experience with one or more modern programming languages (Python, TypeScript, Go, Rust);
• Proficiency in both written and spoken English;
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the team, researchers, and students."

What we offer

As Kubernetes / HPC Devops engineer at ICT Service Centrum, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

• Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 10 according to UFO profile ICT Manager, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €3378,00 and €5331,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
• An employment contract for a period of 12 months with a scope of 0,8 - 1,0 FTE. Upon proven suitability, the employment contract will be converted to an indefinite contract.
• At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.
