Research Officer at MERLN in Maastricht

We are searching for a research officer to join our Operational support team!

Job description

MERLN stands for the Institute for Technology-Inspired Regenerative Medicine and operates at the interface between biology and engineering for the purpose of regenerating diseased or damaged tissues. The institute has an international reputation for technological innovation and for translating research findings into clinical solutions for patients. MERLN researches have diverse expertise and research interests including biomaterials, cell biology, tissue engineering, biofabrication, microfabrication, nanotechnology, bioinformatics and computational modelling.

As research officer you will be part of the Operational support team consisting of lab technicians, a management assistant and an office assistant. You will work closely with our researchers and you will support them to conduct their research. Your tasks consist of the following:

  • You are responsible for our purchases.
    • You will order materials, items articles and objects for the office and the lab.
    • You monitor these orders.
    • You answer incoming questions regarding current and future orders.
    • You are a proactive link between the Purchasing Department of Maastricht University, researchers and suppliers.

  • You are responsible for our lab storage
    • You know how materials need to be stored and organize this.
    • You discuss research needs, advice researchers on what lab consumables they need and provide them the needed lab consumables.
    • You will help with lab activities

  • You will help the MERLN communication team, you will advise them on news articles on ongoing research.

Requirements

  • You have a biomedical background, on at least HBO- level (according to the Dutch Education System).
  • Proficiency in the Dutch and English language;
  • Accuracy: this work requires great precision;
  • Good communication skills;
  • Background in Technical Lab environment is an advantage;
  • Knowledge of MS Office (esp. Excel, Word, Outlook); Understanding of SAP/Arriba is an advantage (these are our ordering systems).

We prefer someone who is available for 1.0 FTE on short notice.

What we offer

As Research Officer at MERLN at Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences, you will be employed by the most international university in the Netherlands, located in the beautiful city of Maastricht. In addition, we offer you:

  • Good employment conditions. The position is graded in scale 7, with corresponding salary based on experience ranging from €2870,00 and €3771,00 gross per month (based on a full-time employment of 38 hours per week). In addition to the monthly salary, an 8.0% holiday allowance and an 8.3% year-end bonus apply.
  • An employment contract for a period up to at least 1st of November 2026 with a scope of 1,0 FTE. Depending on performance and the availability of means at the institute level a further continuation might be possible.
  • At Maastricht University, the well-being of our employees is of utmost importance, we offer flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home if the nature of your position allows it. You will receive a monthly commuting and internet allowance for this. If you work full-time, you will be entitled to 29 vacation days and 4 additional public holidays per year, namely carnival Monday, carnival Tuesday, Good Friday, and Liberation Day. If you choose to accumulate compensation hours, an additional 12 days will be added. Furthermore, you can personalize your employment conditions through a collective labor agreement (CAO) choice model.

At the Faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences (FHML), everything revolves around healthy living. FHML, which is the largest faculty of Maastricht University, is formed by an (inter)national community of employees and students. The faculty offers a wide range of Dutch and English-taught bachelor's and master's programs in innovative educational concepts in which the emphasis is always on building bridges to practice.

The multidisciplinary research of the FHML focuses on a number of carefully chosen topical current themes.
