To realize the ambitions of DCL Corporation Netherlands BV in Maastricht we are looking for a:

APPLICATIONS SPECIALIST/BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT
Educated in Paint Technology and experienced in pigment/coatings/ink 

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

The Applications Specialist / Business Development Coatings (ASC) is responsible for managing technical enquiries related to coatings and to develop new customer relationships / business directed by the direct sales force or distributors/agents. This will be done by a combination of direct customer contacts, working on specific projects, and by supporting the sales force in selling and promoting DCL’s full range of products consistent with sales strategy of the business.

NATURE & SCOPE

This position, reporting to the EMEA Technical Service Manager, has no direct supporting staff, but will interact with the existing Technical Service Laboratories in Toronto, Maastricht, Waterfoot and USA. The effectiveness of the role relies on the person, directed by the sales force, technical service staff and R&D management. The role will be based in Maastricht at least 2 days / week when not travelling. 

GEOGRAPHY

The ASC role is essentially a European based role with the main customer contacts and project work being European customers. However, on occasions, the scope of the role can cover other regions - for example where multinational customer projects are global or there is a requirement for specific distributor training or customer support as directed by the local Regional General Sales Manager (North America, South America, Asia Pacific, MEA). …/cont’d Special Customer Relations.

For the European market the ASC will work with a select number of target customers to develop a strong technical working relationship directed by the local European accountable Sales Manager, to enhance the overall customer / supplier partnership. This will involve working on special projects including technical service work and New Product development. The progress of these customer specific projects will be monitored on a monthly basis. 

Sales Force Support & Training

The ASC will also work for the European Sales managers to help promote DCL’s products at a wider range of customers by regular 3 – 4 monthly visit programs. The emphasis on these customer visits will be the introduction of new products or new product concept promotions.

The ASC is expected to take an active role in the company New Product Process program. This includes bringing forward and sponsoring projects as part of the Special Customer Relations role as well as introducing new product ideas for General Business Development in the coatings industry.

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Post-secondary education in Chemistry / Paint Technology.
  • Minimum 5 years Technical Service / Sales work experience in the pigments to the coatings, and/or ink industries preferred.
  • Proven history of value creation in technical support roles
  • Used to working with a wide product portfolio and extensive range of customer applications.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, oral and written.
  • Proven interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to project a professional positive public image and goodwill.
  • Ability to work with sensitive and confidential information.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The ASC is required to travel frequently throughout the sales territory and can expect to travel 30% of the working year.
